(An updated and revised guide to the conditions leading to...)
An updated and revised guide to the conditions leading to and indicative of hypertension. With new illustrations and extended text, this second edition provides new information on the causes and symptoms of hypertension. Placing greater emphasis on the clinical assessment of patients the atlas shows how to measure blood pressure. The various complications to which hypertension can give rise are considered including peripheral vascular disease, neurological, cardiac, and renal problems. Guidance is given on the factors which may indicate secondary causes of hypertension and on how to investigate in such instances - including IVU, blood tests, renal ultrasound, angiography and VMAs. New sections provide information on the mechanism of hypertension and there is a more detailed account of epidemiology as it occurs in various cultures and races. The section on treatment now covers non-pharmacological management of hypertension as well as the mechanism of anti-hypertension drug actions. The number of MRI and ultrasound illustrations have been substantially increased to bring the atlas fully up to date.
