1901 graduate Moscow University. 1906 graduate Moscow Higher Technical College.
1904 began sci work under the supervision of North. Ye. Zhukovskiy; 1908-1911 taught at Moscow University;resigned with other staff members in protest against policies of Education Minister Kasso and went to work for Bari Company, where he designed reservoirs and oil pipelines under the supervision of V. G. Shukov. 1915 defended master’s thesis on the theory of free-span roofing.
1919-1921 professor, Tiflis Polytech Institute. 1921 professor, Baku Polytech Institute. 1922 returned to Moscow University.
Where he worked until his death. Devised variational methods of solving elasticity problems which made it possible to reach approximate solutions and simplify boundary conditions. Also did research on viscous liquids and devised a new boundary-layer equation.
Studied the theory of oil-extraction by deep pumping and the subterranean hydraulics of oil, water and gas. On the basis of his research on the motion strata of oil and gas in pipes developed new methods of pipeline calculation. During his considerable research on geophysics also applied the theory of elasticity to the structure of the Earth and evaluated the effect of the Earth’s heterogeneity on the absolute value of the solidity of the Earth.
Wrote numerous works, including textbooks on theoretical mech, material resistance, hydraulics and oil mechanic
Since religion offers a complete set of answers to the problems of purpose, morality, origins, or science, it discourages exploration of those areas by suppressing curiosity, denies its followers a broader perspective, and prevents social, moral and scientific progress.
Marxism–Leninism as the only truth could not, by its very nature, become outdated.
