Doctor of Mech. and Mathematical Science since 1937. Full member, USSR Academy of Science, since 1953. Professor, and Head, Chair of Hydrodynamics, Moscow University, since 1937, and Central Institute of Aircraft Engine Construction, since 1947.
Chairman, Commission for the Promotion of Interplanetary Flights, USSR Academy of Science, since 1958. President, International Astronautical Federation, 1959-1961. Specialist on ideal fluidity, including hydrofoil theory.
Worked out accurate solutions for gas dynamics equations and solved problem of powerful explosions, etc. 1931-1937 at Central Aerohydrodynamics Institute. 1946-1953 corresponding member, USSR Academy of Science.
1956 attended International Conference on Rocket Research, Freidenstadt. Deputy Chairman, Presidium, USSR National Committee Theoretical and Applied Mech.
