The protégé of Giuseppe Bardi, a rich chalcog-rapher (copper and brass engraver) in Florence, Alinari founded a photographic society in 1854 along with his brothers. He became quite well known, receiving prizes and awards from expositions in Florence (1861), Vienna (1873), Pans (1878) and Milan (1881).
Alinari's main subject matter was the monuments and buildings of Florence, Tuscany, Rome and Naples.
