Appointed attorney general to fill vacancy, August 31, 1924, and elected to same office for term 1925-1928, reëlected, 1928, for term 1929-1932 inclusive. Admitted to practice in Supreme Court United States Attorney for Department of Army, Engineer Corps, Sacramento, California In United States Army, World War, from March 26, 1917.

With American Expeditionary Forces in France, 18 months. Division machine gun officer and assistant chief of staff G3, 41st Division. Honorary discharged, May 15, 1919.

Brigadier general National Guard (retired).
