(This book is a book in which representatives of the Socia...)
This book is a book in which representatives of the Social Sciences bring into focus the contribution of their respective disciplines toward the understanding of change in the small community. Authors are selected from the fields of Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. The book grew out of a very practical church and community concern. Those who had been charged with the responsibility for church work in "town and country" in The Methodist Church, found they could not really deal with the problems of the church in the changing small community unless they first understood what was happening in the life of the small community itself. The knowledge possessed by the various social sciences had never been surveyed and gathered into one place for use by local churches. This book meets the need. The editors have included a chapter on the relationship between theology and the social sciences. Concluding chapters summarize the situation as far as the local church is concerned and add further dimension to the dialogue between the Social Sciences and the churches and their need to deal with issues in thief of the small community.
