Lesley Dauer was born on August 10, 1965, in Mountain View, California, United States. She is the daughter of Arthur F. and Anne (O’Neil) Dauer. Lesley has a brother, Chris.
Dauer received her education at Middlebury College, graduating from it with a bachelor's degree in 1987. She also received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1992 and a Master of Education degree from Harvard University the next year.
Dauer started her career as an instructor in English and creative writing at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1989. In 1993, she went to Johns Hopkins University, where she held the position of instructor in English at Center for Talented Youth till 1997.
Since 1996, Dauer is a freelance poet and also serves at Foothill College in California. Currently, she holds the position of professor of English and creative writing there.
Lesley Dauer is best known as a poet, whose works have appeared in numerous magazines, including Boulevard, Grand Street and Poetry, and anthologies, including American Poetry: The Next Generation (CMUP). Dauer's major works are such collections of poems as The Fragile City of 1996 and Carnival Life: Poems of 2016.
