Combs, Leslie was born on July 31, 1852 in Little Compton, Rhode Island, United States. Son of General Leslie and Mary Elizabeth (Brownell) Combs.

Daniel Swigert, of Spring Station, Kentucky, October 18, 1876. Engaged since manhood In tine stock raising and tobacco planting. Also rancher in Texas and Indian Ty., several years.

Pension agent for Kentucky, 1898-1900. Resigned, becoming chairman Republican Executive Committee, Kentucky, 1900. Reapptd, pension agent for Kentucky, 1900-1902.

Envoy Extraordinary anu Minister Plenipotentiary to Guatemala and Honduras, 1902-1906, to Peru, December 19, 1906-March 1911, resigned. Presented with a gold vase by Government of Guatemala as souvenir of the Peace Conference of the Marblehead, 1906. Organized Progressive party in Kentucky, 1912.
