Education
Jackson's documented university education includes a Bachelor of Commerce from Rand, a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oxford.
Columbia University is a private research university in New York City, and its business school, which awards the MBA, dates from 1916. The MBA represents graduate training in business management, a field that expanded rapidly in the United States during the twentieth century.
The University of Oxford grants its degrees through a collegiate system of colleges and faculties, and it is one of the oldest universities in the English-speaking world. Jackson's Oxford degree, a Bachelor of Arts, preceded a career in English legal practice.
Career
Jackson was admitted to the bar in England in 1977. Jackson's principal professional affiliation was with Theodore Goddard, a London firm of solicitors founded in 1902 by the English solicitor John Theodore Goddard.
The firm moved to offices in Sergeant's Inn in 1917, relocated to New Court beside the Law Courts, and moved to the City of London in 1965. By 1946 it had eight partners, and by the end of the 1980s its London office had grown to more than 300 staff and over 40 partners. Its practice combined general work with a strong media and entertainment law practice and private client work.
Jackson was a partner at the firm and, according to a report in The Lawyer, was named to Theodore Goddard's new management board as the head of its corporate work. The same board included leaders for banking and projects, entertainment, litigation, and property.
Theodore Goddard merged with Addleshaw Booth & Co on 1 May 2003, creating Addleshaw Goddard, so the firm under its own name ceased to exist after that date.
