1911 fought plague in Manchuria, and 1912 in Mongolia. 1917-1918 member, Russian Social-Democratic Labor Party Northwestern Committee. 1933 founded Moscow Central Research Laboratory of Hygiene and Epidemiology under Popular Commissariat of Transport.
1944-1948 Bureau member,Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology, USSR Academy of Medical Science. 1948 founded Kiev Institute of Infectious Diseases, USSR Academy of Medical Science. Chairman, Epidemiological Commission, Learned Medicine Council, Ukrainia Ministry of Health.
Chairman, Kiev Society of Epidemiologists, Microbiologists and Infectionists. Analysed epidemiology of typhus and organized disinfection service system. Determined nature of septic angina caused by consumption of food containing grain which had remained in the field during winter and developed measures against this ailment. Studied helminthiasis in southwestern Ukrainia.
Research deals with epidemiology of infectious diseases, e.g., cholera, typhus, etc., and with measures against infections.
