1901 graduate Medical Faculty, Khar’kov University.
1901 first work printed. From 1904 contributed regularly to Marxist periodicals, including “Pravda”. Wrote about Gogol’, Chekhov and Andreyev.
1904 drafted into army as physician during Russo-Japanese War. His military impressions were published in the newspaper “Kiycvskaya mysl'”. 1908-1909 contributed to collection Literatumyy raspad (Literary Decay).
1914 again drafted into army and scrbecl at front until the end of World War 1: fought in Civil War. During Polish War served with 12th Army. Continued to write despite increasing blindness.
