In 1930 Lev Abramovich graduated from the literary department of the pedagogical faculty of the Voronezh State University.
Lev Abramovich worked as Assistant, Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Literature of the Voronezh State Pedagogical University (former Voronezh State Pedagogical Institute), where in 1934 he defended his thesis. He combined his studies at the university with the work in the newspaper Kommuna (for a while he edited its literary appendix called "The Week"). He participated in the creation of the magazine "Pod’yom" (1931), was a member of its editorial board and a regular author.
Since 1936 he lived in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg). Since 1938 he was Deputy Director of the Institute of Russian Literature (the Pushkin House), in 1949-1971 he worked as Professor of the Department of Soviet Literature of Saint Petersburg State University (former Leningrad State University).
For many years, Lev Abramovich studied Alexei Vasilyevich Koltsov and especially Ivan Savvich Nikitin works. Author of about 15 books, including several books on D.I. Pisarev, literary-critical essays on V. Panova (1962), D. Granin (1975). A collection of articles entitled "The Writer and the Epoch" was published postmortem.
