Practiced law 50 years, Dayton, O. Retired, devoting himself to public charity and political reform. State senator, 1862-1865.

Presidential elector, 1864, and canvassed State for Lincoln. Manager of National Soldiers’ Homes for 12 years. Special commissioner, 1871, to investigate frauds practiced upon Cherokee, Creek and Chickasaw Indians.
