KVITKO, Leyb was born on November 11, 1895 in village Goloskovo, near Podol’sk. Son of a poor peasant.

Orphaned at an early age, he worked as a shoemaker, hide peddler and painter. Toured length and breadth of the Ukraine. 1917 first work published.
1921-1925 lived in Germany. 1926 returned to Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics and worked for a Jewish journal in Khar’kov. 1934 deleg, 1st All-Union Writers’ Congress.
From 1936 lived in Moscow. During World War 2 worked for Soviet Information Bureau and Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee. 1949 arrested by State Security organs.
Wrote mainly children's verse, which was translated into Russian by South. Marshak, South. Mikhalkov, M. Svetlov, Ye. Blaganina, et cetera
