Libbie Rifkin graduated from Governor Livingston High School in 1987. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Amherst College in 1991. Libbie also got a Master of Arts from Cornell University in 1994 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1997.
Libbie Rifkin began her career in 1998 at the University of Alabama as an assistant professor of English. She worked there for two years, becoming an adjunct assistant professor of English at Georgetown University. Libbie also was a poetry coordinator at Folger Shakespeare library and consulting specialist in American poetry at the Library of Congress.
Rifkin’s first book Career Moves: Olson, Creeley, Zukofsky, Berrigan, and the American Avant-Garde was published in 2000. Her most recent book is the co-edited collection Among Friends: Engendering the Social Site of Poetry. Libbie has also written about avant-garde poetic careers in the 1950s and 60s, as well as about relations between poetry and institutions in the post-War era. She also leads the Disability Studies Minor Working Group and is involved in other efforts to incorporate disability into the social justice mission of the university.
