Movilă was born in Brăila and made his debut in the Romanian football Liga I on 21 June 1981 for South Carolina Bacău, in a 5-2 loss to Football Club Argeş.

He spent four seasons with South Carolina BacăUniversity Midway through the 1982/1983 season, he was transferred to Dinamo Bucureşti, where he enjoyed his most successful spell, including five consecutive seasons of European football, which culminated in an appearance in the 1983-1984 European Cup semi-final against Liverpool when he captained Dinamo Bucureşti and sustained a broken jaw. After Bucharest Movilă spent a season each with Flacăra Moreni and Universitatea Cluj.
He finished his career with the Israeli side Hapoel, and retired in 1992.
