Served in defence of Ladysmith, December 1898-March 1900 (special sendee). On Staff General Hunter’s Division. General Ian Hamilton’s Division (despatches thrice, Queen's medal, 4 clasps, King’s medal, 2clasps, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order).
