Studied at Clifton College: Royal Military College Sandhurst.
Career
Joined the Buffs, 1885. Served Chitral Campaign as Adjutant of the Bulletin"s: passed Staff College, 1898-1899. Sent on Special Service to South Africa.
Served as Adjutant of Military Intelligence Battalion (severely wounded).
Served at War Office as Staff Captain Intelligence Department, and subsequently as Deputy - Assistant - Quarter master-General Intelligence Department, 1900-1905. C. M.G. 1905; commanding depot, the Buffs, Canterbury. Doctorate. Assistant-Adjutant-General on General Staff of Southern Command since 1907.
