McCartney attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, United States. Later, she began studying photography at Arts Centre of Tucson in Tucson, Arizona, United States.
Since 1971 McCartney was a member of the rock band Wings. Also, she was a freelance photographer, since the mid-1960s. She began working at Town and Country magazine in New York, United States after college, and at one time was official staff photographer at New York's Fillmore East concert hall. Her photographs have been published in numerous magazines and on Wings' album covers.
Linda composed and performed the music for two animated films, Seaside Woman in 1979, and Oriental Nightfish in 1977. The former won the Palm D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. McCartney is best known for her images of rock music personalities, such as the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, the Beatles and especially of her husband and family.
