Lindsay Mcdonald Silvester, American army officer. Decorated Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star Citation, Purple Heart (United States); Legion of Honor (France). member Infantry Board, 1937-1938.


Silvester, Lindsay Mcdonald was born on September 30, 1889 in Portsmouth, Virginia, United States. Son of Lindsay McDonald and Virginia (Hurst) Silvester.


Bachelor of Science, Maryland. Agricultural College, 1911. Graduate Advance Course Infantry School 1923, Command and General staff schedul, 1924, Army War College, 1930.


Commissioned Second lieutenant United States Army, 1911, advanced through grades to major general, 1942. Served with 2d Infantry, Hawaii, 1912-1915. With 24th Infantry, Mexican Punitive Expedition, 1916.

Captain, major 30th Infantry and 7th Infantry, with Advertising Educational Foundation, 1918. Participated in Aisne, Champagne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne offensives, wounded October 11, 1918. On duty with American commissioner, Berlin, Germany, inspector prison of war camps, 1919.

With Military Intelligence Division, Washington, 1919-1922. Instructor Infantry School, Fort Benning, Georgia, 1924-1927. With 16th Infantry, Fort Wadsworth, New York, 1927-1929.

R.O.T.C. instructor North Carolina State College, later instructor District of Columbia National Guard, 1931-1935. With 66th Infantry (light tanks), 1935. Member Infantry Board, 1937-1938.

Chief tanks section Infantry School, Fort Benning, 1939-1940. Commanded 67th Infantry (medium tanks), 1940. Commanded 69th Armored Regiment, Fort Knox, June 1940-March 30, 1941.

Now commanding 1st Tank Group, General Headquarters Reserve.


Member Infantry Board, 1937-1938. Clubs: Army and Navy (Washington).
