She was born into a well-known gymnastics family. Both her mother, Huiqi Suo, and father, Shuzeng Guo were gymnasts on the Chinese National Team.

国林红 （國林紅）aka: Guolin Red. Guo Lin Hong She has two older brothers, Linsheng Guo and Linxian Guo, and one younger brother, Linyao Guo, who were all internationally competing gymnasts. She was also invited to attend the 20th Century World Athlete"s Award in Hungary on June 29, 1999 with Li Ning, a well known Chinese gymnast.

She was the first Chinese gymnast to attempt the She was hand picked to attend Beijing Ba-Yi Gymnastics Training School at a very young age and become a top team member at the age of 9. She remained a gymnast until 1990 and has been coaching ever since.
