Educated selfeducated. Brought to Cuba by an uncle in 1910.
Brought to Cuba by an uncle in 1910. From 1910 to 1926 worked in Cuba as a chauffeur, bricklayer, sailor, etc. From 1926 to 1927 worked in New York as an office boy, dishwasher, etc.
His literary career began in 1927 with the publishing of a poem, “El camarada,” in the Revista de Avance, whose co-director, Dr. Jorge Mañach, encouraged him in the study of letters. During the next few years contributed a number of poems, short stories, essays, etc., to the Revista de Avance, El País, Diario de la Marina, Social, Bohemia, and Orbe, all of Havana. In 1931 Sr. Novás went to Madrid as correspondent of the weekly review Orbe (now defunct).
Since that time, maintaining his residence temporarily in the Spanish capital, he has also written a number of articles and short stories for the Gaceta Literaria, El Sol, Luz, Revista de Occidente, Los Cuatro Vientos, and Anales of the University of Madrid, all of Madrid.
