Served Royal Navy, in “ Bellerophon ” (1873) as midshipman. Served in the “Iris” in the Egyptian War, 1882. Sub-Lieut, in the Royal yacht.
Lieut, nine years in the torpedo service. Commander in “Barfleur,” “Benbow,” and as senior officer of the Devonport torpedoboat destroyer squadron, and on the Signal Committee. Took a prominent part in the management of the Naval Exhibition, 1891.
Chief Agent of the Conservative Party, 1903-1905. Originator of the 1898 Scheme for the Protection of London against Fire, completed, 1908. Patentee of the horsed escape, telephone firealarm and other Fire Brigade improvements. Captain Royal Navy; late Chief Officer Metropolitan Fire Brigade.
