Dr. Lisa Berzins received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1977. For her undergraduate career she went to prestigious Brandeis University, where she graduated magna cum laude with high honors in psychology and as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.

After her graduation, she attended the University of Kentucky, where she earned her Master of Arts and her Ph.D. in Psychology in 1982. Dr. Berzins obtained her position as the Director of the Eating Disorders Program at The Institute of Living. After spending six years in that position, she took a similar position at the Elmcrest Psychiatric Institute. It was during this time, she started her private practice in West Hartford. She left Elmcrest in 1996 to focus on her own practice.
Prior to being in full-time private practice, Lisa Berzins worked as a psychologist at Connecticut Valley Hospital. She consulted for the treatment team in the male rehab unit and provided trauma-informed individual psychotherapy. In addition, Dr. Berzins used her mindfulness and self-compassion techniques in group-based therapy and supervised doctoral students and staff.
