Lisa Maria Evers is an American general assignment reporter for FOX 5 News in New York City.

Career

Evers interviewed such celebrities as Derek Jeter, Jay-Z, and 50 Century, Central She occasionally hosts FOX 5"s public affairs show, "Good Day Street Talk" on topical issues. In addition to television, Evers hosts a weekly #1 rated community affairs talk show on New York"s Hot 97 FM radio station.

With the support of FOX 5 and HOT 97, she led a drive that brought a truckload of new clothes, sneakers and toys to survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

Most recently, along with the Hip Hop Has Heart Foundation, she helped organize a major relief effort in the Rockaways following Super Storm Sandy. Prior to FOX 5, Evers was a general assignment reporter for 1010 World International News Service, the nation"s #1 news radio station.

She reported live from Ground Zero on September 11, and for many days following the terror attacks. She began at World International News Service as a freelance reporter, and was also working for Cable News Network Radio Network, and the American Broadcasting Company Radio Network.

In 1987 Evers" book "Attitude" was released.

Evers was signed to Elite Model Management in the 1980s and worked in New York and Paris. She appeared in a variety of magazines from around the world, including French editions of "Elle" and "Vogue." She also appeared in magazines in the United Kingdom, Australia, and India. She was discovered by a fashion photographer who saw her on the subway and took some test shots.

Those led her to a modeling contract with the Elite Agency.

Evers has a black belt in karate and has been featured in self-defense videos for women. In 1987 she was the first woman to be inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame as "Woman of the Year".

She authored several monthly columns in Black Belt between 1986 and 1994. Evers was once vice-president of the Guardian Angels, a volunteer crime-fighting organization.

With Sliwa, she co-hosted a talk radio show on WABC-Department of Administration and Management in New York City that ended shortly before their divorce.

A trained martial artist, in 1986 Evers briefly attempted to become a professional wrestler joining the She appeared on Tuesday Night Titans in 1985 and demonstrated several self-defense holds. There was speculation that she wrestled as the masked competitor Spider Lady (a role that would later be portrayed by Fabulous Moolah) however, Wendi Richter revealed in an interview that the Spider Lady character was actually portrayed by female wrestler Glenn Dean.

  • At that time she was married to its founder, Curtis Sliwa, and was known as Lisa Sliwa and worked as a model with Elite Model Magnagement in Paris and New York City.
