Lisa Talbott served as a physical therapy assistant at the ABA Physical Therapy Associates from 1988 to 1995. After that, she became a co-founder of the Team Survivor Northwest, a national non-profit organization that teaches women, cancer survivors how to use exercise for physical and emotional recovery. There she also served as a program director until 1999. During this time, Lisa also worked as a physical therapy assistant at the Physical Therapy Resources. She also served as a study coordinator at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in 1998-2002, a health promotion manager at the Cancer Lifeline in 1999-2004, a team survivor national coach at the Danskin Women's Triathlon Series in 1995-2005, a sales representative at the Wyeth Pharmaceuticals at the Women's Health Division in 2004-2005, a health educator and consultant at the Talbott Health & Fitness Education in 1990-2006, and a senior biotech sales specialist at the MedImmune Incorporated at the Infectious Disease Division in 2005-2008. She also taught courses in health and nutrition at the University of Phoenix from 2010 until 2013. Moreover, Lise held the position of a state program and public affairs director at the March of Dimes from 2008 to 2010, a center manager and sales manager at the Lincare Incorporated at the Port Townsend Center from 2010 to 2011, and a senior business development specialist at the Providence Health & Services from 2012 to 2016. After it, Lisa Talbott started to work at the Gilead Sciences. She was a community specialist in 2016-2018, a manager of the Commercial Learning & Development in 2018-2020, and to date, she is a senior manager.
Lisa Talbott has carried out studies to prove that regular exercise reduces a woman's risk of developing breast cancer. Along with coauthors Anne McTiernan, a breast cancer specialist, and Julie Gralow, director of the University of Washington's Breast Cancer Genetics Clinics, she published her findings in the book Breast Fitness: An Optimal Exercise and Health Plan for Reducing Your Risk of Breast Cancer. They are not the first to make a connection between exercise and reduced cancer risk. The authors clearly explain their reasoning so readers can make educated guesses about how to prevent the disease. According to Breast Fitness, a woman's weight plays a critical role in whether or not she develops breast cancer. If she does develop the disease, weight plays a significant role in recovery. The authors note that obese women are two times more likely to develop breast cancer than thin women, and overweight women are two times less likely to survive after diagnosis. The authors theorize that high-fat diets produce fat stores within the body. These fat stores raise hormone levels in the blood, which are related to tumor growth.
Lisa Talbott is well known as a fitness and therapeutic exercise specialist and writer. In 1995 she co-founded the Team Survivor Northwest, which provides fitness and health programs, enabling women cancer survivors to take an active role in their ongoing healing. Additionally, Talbott is currently the author of the book Breast Fitness.
