Selected for Indian Political Service, 1891.
Served, 1897, as 2nd in command of an expedition sent by British West Charterland Company, London, to Lake Ngami Country in South Africa. Served with South African Field Force, 1899- 1902.
First with Thorneycroft’s Mounted Infantry, and later as Lieutenant-Colonel commanding I8tli Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, and a mobile column. Decorations: Hazara Campaign, 1888 (medal with clasp).
Chitral Campaign, 1895 (medal with clasp).
South African Campaign, I 1899-1902 (despatches twice, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, 2 medals with 8 clasps). Coronation medal, and Hessian ! Order of Philip. Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 1900.
