Twice President of the Hull Incorporated Chamber of Commerce and Shipping. A pioneer in profit sharing. Promoted the British National Antarctic Expedition, 1899-1904, subscribing to its funds over £30,000. Lieutenant- Coh, formerly commanding 1st V.B. East Yorkshire Regiment; retired 1880; F. R.G.S. (formerly on Council), F.R.Met.Soc., etc.
Fellow of the Zoological Society. Clubs: Junior Athenaeum, Royal Societies; Royal Yorkshire Yacht.
