On January 21, 1903, the United States Ship Leyden was returning from Puerto Rico when it foundered near Block Island in a heavy fog. He died on February 20, 1946 and is buried in Baltimore National Cemetery Baltimore, Maryland. His grave can be found in the distinguished service section, grave 1.
