He was selected by the Cubs in the 21st round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. Watkins was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 21st round of the 2008 amateur draft. He signed with the team on June 27, 2008, receiving a reported signing bonus of $600,000.

Majors
