Grivna ran for the same seat, unsuccessfully, against current State Representative Kate Knuth in 2006. Previously the seat had been held by Char Samuelson, who retired the same year. Grivna previously served two terms on the Mounds View District School Board, which serves all or parts of the cities of New Brighton, Shoreview, Arden Hills, North Oaks, Mounds View, Vadnais Heights, Roseville and Spring Lake Park.
She graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1978 and received her Bachelor"s Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1983.
