Career
She was president of the National Council of Teachers of English in 1954. She was a pioneer with her ideas toward English education and were based on much practice developing ideas to write about rather than having children learn ever-changing grammar laws. Labrant was an English teacher for almost seventy years.
She created free reading programs and worked at the University School of the Ohio State University during the 1930s and 1940s.
She eventually taught in every state and was the first female professor at Harvard University. She also wrote numerous books on teaching.
She died at the age of 102 in 1991 and was cremated.
