Louis Cane entered the National School of Decorative Arts in Nice in 1961, and then, from 1962 to 1964, completed two years of education at the National School of Decorative Arts (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs) in Paris with the National Diploma in Interior Architecture.
Cane began painting his first abstract canvases during his studying in Paris. His first exhibition took place at Galerie Givaudan, Paris, in 1969. At that time Cane met Philippe Sollers and Marcelin Pleynet.
He participated in the second and third exhibition of the Supports-Surfaces group at the Théâtre de la Cité Internationale in Paris in April 1970, then in June 1970 at the theater from Nice and directed his solo exhibitions in Paris, at Daniel Templon gallery in 1971 and Yvon Lambert gallery in 1972.
Cane was one of the founders of the magazine "Paintings" since 1971.
He continued his abstract series of cut canvas in 1974-1975. Between 1973 and 1978, Cane made many trips to Italy, where Raphael's frescoes at the Vatican influenced him, then studied classical painting, particularly that of Cimabue and Giotto.
Louis Cane exhibited his works at the Kunsthalle Bielefeld, Germany, in 1978, and directed many personal exhibitions in Europe in 1979.
Besides, he gave a lecture at the Institute of Art, Paris, in 1980. Meanwhile, he had the exhibition of figurative paintings at Galerie Templon, Paris, and settled in his studio on rue Saint-Maur, Paris.
In 1980's, 1990's and 2000's, Cane continued to exhibit his works at various galleries and museums across Europe.
Currently, Louis Cane lives and works in Paris.
