Louis Jules Duboscq was born on March 5, 1817 in France.
Louis Duboscq was responsible for a number of progressive steps in the field of photography, among them: the construction of automatic projection arc lamps with Foucault in 1849; construction of the "polyconograph" in 1861, a camera attachment containing a row of five double plateholders that were movable, making it possible for fifteen exposures to be made on one plate; the manufacture of Sir David Brewster's lenticular stereoscopic lens; and construction of an apparatus for enlarging by electric light, presented before the Pans Photographic Society on February 15, 1861. Louis Duboscq became involved with microphotography, collaborating with Léon Foucault and the optician Nachet.
