Appointed to fill vacancy in Senate, November 1925, caused by death of Senator Edwin F. Ladd and seated January 1926 by vote of 41 to 39 after long controversy in Senate over right of Governor. to appt. Elected in June 1926 to short term ending March 1927, re-elected November 1927 for full term ending March 1933.
