Luca Serafini is an Italian researcher and educator. He is a research director at National Institute for Nuclear Physics, Milan.

Background

Serafini was born on March 4, 1957 in Bergamo, Lombardia, Italy; the son of Dante and Maria (Limonta) Serafini.

Education

Serafini received a Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of Milan in 1980.

Career

Serafini began his career as a research director at the National Institute for Nuclear Physics in 1981. Four years later he became a fellow at that institute. In 1996-1997, he was a professor of the department of physics at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Nowadays Luca is a research director at the National Institute for Nuclear Physics, Milan. He is also a scientific coordinator of the EuroGammaS collaboration for ELI-NPGBS (Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics - Gamma Beam System) Serafini is a project leader of INFN STAR Project (Southern europe Thomson x-ray source for Applied Research) He is a CDR Coordinator of the collaboration INFN-University of Milan for the design study of the MariX Project.

Achievements

  • Serafini is known for authoring of more than 270 scientific papers on refereed international scientific journals and proceedings of international conferences and workshops.

Membership

Serafini is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Physical Society, Italian Physical Society and Club Alpino Italiano. He was a member of the ICFA (International Committee for Future Accelerators) Panel on Advanced Accelerators.
