Lucille Travis is an American writer of books for children and educator.

Background

Daughter of William and Florence (a secretary; maiden name, Weill) LaFlower, Mrs. Travis was born in Whitehall, New York, United States, on October 16, 1931.

Education

Lucille Travis completed her studies at Gordon College, obtaining Bachelor of Science in 1959. In 1975 she received her Master of Arts from Western Connecticut University.

Career

Mrs. Travis worked as second-grade teacher. From 1971 to 1972 she served as a nursery school director and between 1990 and 1994 a part-time instructor in English at colleges in New York and Minnesota. Lucille Travis was a sponsor and tutor of Hmong refugees in 1985-1995. She performed women’s prison work with Prison Fellowship during 1990-1994. Mrs. Travis was a member of community outreach committee of local church from 1992 till 1994. Currently she is a teacher of drama in church congregations and writer.
