Alexander graduated from the University of Bristol in 1994 with a degree in Modern Languages (French/Spanish).

She has also presented the Information Technology and technology series eLife on Consumer News and Business Channel Europe. She went on to do a post-graduate course in Broadcast Journalism at Highbury College, Portsmouth. Journalism & Broadcast Alexander began her career with the British Broadcasting Corporation, working for British Broadcasting Corporation Radio Solent, then for British Broadcasting Corporation Hereford and Worcester as a news reporter.
She moved to Independent Television News Anglia in 1997 where she made the transition to television as a news reporter, then as a main anchor of Anglia News West"s evening news programme.
Alexander moved to Independent Television News London in 2001 as a reporter/presenter. She became the main anchor of the one-hour lunchtime magazine news programme London Today and the co-anchor of the channel"s flagship evening news programme, London Tonight with Alastair Stewart.
When London Tonight"s production was taken over by ITN in 2004, she became co-host (with Andrew Harvey) of the weekday Breakfast Programme on the rolling news Independent Television News Channel. In 2006 she became the weekend evening newsreader on Sky News.
