Luigi Colausig was born on March 4, 1914 in Gradisca d"Isonzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia in a family of peasants.
Before starting his career of a professional footballer Luigi Colausig worked as a shoemaker. The bulk of Colaussi's club career is associated with Triestina (Triestina; 1930-40, 1945-46; 274 matches, 45 goals). He also played for Juventus (1940-42; 40 games, 7 goals), Vicenza (1942-45; 47 games, 23 goals) and Padova (1946-48: 45 games, 12 goals). Winner of the Italy Cup (1942). He made his debut for the Italian national team in 1935 and won the Central European International Cup. At the victorious World Cup in France (1938), he participated in 3 matches out of 4 (did not play in the last 16 with Norway) and scored 4 goals (and opened the score in the matches of the Italian national team in the quarterfinal, semifinal and final, in which he scored twice). At the end of the tournament, he was included in its all-star national team. In total, he played 26 matches and scored 15 goals for the Italian national team (1935-40). Despite his poor physical qualities, he was able to act effectively and spectacularly on the field; he was distinguished by a well-placed kick, speed, composure, and the ability to realize chances to score. After finishing his playing career, he tried himself as a coach, but he wasn’t successful. In 1970, on behalf of the Italian Football Federation, he worked as a coach with A. Biavati in Libya, but soon after the establishment of the regime of M. Gaddafi, he returned to his homeland. He opened a bar in the commune of Bassano del Grappa (province of Vicenza), but was unable to cope with financial problems (because of which he was even forced to pawn a world champion medal). Since 1986, he received a life-annuity from the state.
