During his reign the club won two Spanish Championships, two Spanish Cups, one (now defunct) League Cup, and one Union of European Football Associations Cup, but failed to win its seventh European Cup after losing 0-1 to Liverpool in the 1981 final and its first Union of European Football Associations Cup Winners" Cup following their 1983 defeat to Aberdeen in the final.
