Luis Dourdil was a self-taught painter.
At the beginning of his career as a painter, Luis affiliated himself with the Figurative art, shifting later to the abstract representation of his works.
In the 1940s, Luis travelled through several European cities. As a result, his own style emerged.
In 1945 the artist made a mural of 25 square metres in the hall of the Laboratory Sanitas (nowadays Pharmacy Museum). The same year he also executed a wall painting of 16 square metres at Foyer de Honra do Cinema Império and in 1955 Luis created a mural of 48 square metres in Cinema Empire (present-day "Coffee Empire"). In 1967, Dourdil created a mural of 50 square metres at Panoramic Restaurant of Monsanto.
In 1966, acting as a designer, he created the commemorative postage stamp for the second centenary of Bocage's birth. The stamp circulated until 1973.
Since 1935, Luis Dourdil took part in a great number of exhibitions, such as Portuguese World Exhibition in 1940, Art Biennial of Cerveira in 1979 and 1981, Bienal Ibero-Americana de Desenho, Mexico, in 1980, and others.
