In the 1950s Villoro was a member of the Hyperion group, a philosophical circle that discussed Mexican identity. Villoro has held editorial positions with several journals including Revista de la Universidad de México, El espectador and Critica: revista hispanoamericana de filosofía. He has translated works of Husserl, Marcel and others into Spanish. His books of 1950, 1983 and 1985 are perhaps the most significant. In Creer, saber, conocer ( 1982), he tries to solve the problem of scepticism, defending a conception of knowledge as an objectively justified belief.
