Luke Chimuka was born on July 7, 1966 in Zambia; the son of Enock and Adelaide Chimuka.

In 1990 Luke graduated from University of Zambia and received his Bachelor of Science degree. In 1996 he received a Master of Science degree from University of Botswana, Gaborone. Also in 2001 he received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Lund University, Sweden.
From 1991 to 1993 Luke Chimuka worked as a Management trainee at Pigoti Maskew Ltd. in Kitwe, Zambia. He held a position of Research development at Consolidated Tyre Services in 1993-1994. From 2002 to 2003 Luke Chimuka worked as a Senior lecturer at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, also at University of Venda in South Africa from 2003 to 2006. Since 2006 he works as Professor of Chemistry at University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. He is a part of the Environmental Analytical Chemistry research group within the School of Chemistry.
Luke is a member of Molecular Science Society, South African Chemical Institute.
Luke is married to Mary Jane Thaela and has 2 children.
