Newberry was first signed with an agent aged 7 and at age 11 he played the role of Colin Craven in the stage version of The Secret Garden, and also appeared in the film The Heart of Maine with Helena Bonham Carter and Paul Bettany. In 2010 Newberry was cast to play Teddy Lupin in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Participant 2 but was cut from the final film. He has acted on stage as well in films playing Haemon in Sophocles" Antigone at the National Theatre.
In 2015, Newberry played the lead role of Gabe in "Teddy Ferrara" at the Donmar Warehouse, directed by Dominic Cooke.
In 2013 Newberry starred in the leading role of the British Broadcasting Corporation Three supernatural drama In the Flesh. He was nominated for British Academy of Film and Television Arts television Award for Best Actor for the series 1 in 2014 and the series 2 began airing on British Broadcasting Corporation Three in the same year.
Newberry was also nominated for Best Actor at the RTS Awards 2014. In 2013, Newberry was one of Screen International"s Stars of Tomorrow.
He stars in the upcoming film Dusty and Maine with Genevieve Gaunt, Iain Glen and Lesley Sharp.
He is a supporter of the HeForShe feminism campaign.
