Decorated: was one of centre sergeants at Alma, and advanced between officers carrying the colours. Served Crimea, 1854-55 (medal with two clasps, Victoria Cross, Sardinian and Turkish medals, promoted ensign, 5th class Medjidieh). Ashantee Expedition, 1873 (Brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel, Ashantee medal).
