Wright was selected by the Utah Jazz in the 1st round (18th overall) of the 1993 National Basketball Association Draft. In his National Basketball Association career, however, he played one year, averaging 1.3 points in 15 games during the 1993-1994 season. Prior to the National Basketball Association, Wright attended Seton Hall University, and played high school ball at Elizabeth High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
In January 1994, police found Wright at a highway rest area west of Salt Lake City, banging garbage cans and smashing in car windows.
After the season with Jazz finished, he entered a mental institution. Still during his National Basketball Association stint, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and left the team
In 1996, he was released from a psychiatric hospital after a 30-day admission. Under his contract agreement with the Jazz, Wright was to be paid United States$153,000 per year for 25 full years.
