He graduated from New Hanover High School in 1969 and received training in mortuary science at Gupton Jones College.

Chairman appropriations on justice public safety committee, member appropriations/base budget committee, commerce committee, information technical committee, pensiona and retirement and aging committee, ruels and operations of senate committee, vice chairman state and local government committee.
