Admitted to North Carolina bar, 1901, and began practice at Kinston, 1901. Formed partnership with A. J. Loftin, as Loftin & Varser, later Loftin, Varser & Dawson. Member firm McLean, Varser & McLean, at Lumberton, North Carolina, 1911, later McLean, Varser, McLean & Stacy, now named Varser, McIntyer, Henry & Hedgpeth.
Appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, March 17, 1925.
Resigned December 31, 1925. And returned to practice with firm of Varser, Lawrence, Proctor & McIntyre.
