Lyn received from Kelvin Grove C.A.E. the Diploma of Teaching in 1973, Bachelor of Education in 1978, Master of Education in 1981. In 1988 she earned a PhD from the University of Queensland.
Lyn worked as a classroom teacher at state primary schools in Queensland, Australia from 1974 until 1978. She was mathematics curriculum coordinator at Open Access Unit, Brisbane, Australia between 1979 and 1985. She worked at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane as a lecturer from 1982 till 1988, as senior lecturer from 1988 until 1992, as an associate professor of mathematics education since 1992. Since 1993 she has been an assistant director of Centre for Mathematics and Science Education. She has also taught in graduate courses at Purdue University (USA) via online distributed learning communities. She is on doctoral panels of students at universities in the US. Currently she is a professor of Faculty of Education, School of Teacher Education and Leadership at Queensland University of Technology.
Lyn is a supporter of Anglicanism.
