Lynn Flewelling was born Lynn Elizabeth Beaulieu on October 20, 1958, in Presque Isle, Maine.
Lynn studied at Presque Isle High School. Later, at the University of Maine, where Lynn studied English literature and history, she received a Bachelor's degree and a teaching certificate in 1981. Then, from 1982 to 1983, she studied veterinary medicine at the University of Oregon, and journalism and classical Greek at Georgetown University from 1985 to 1986.
She also received a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with Emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2015.
Before becoming an author, Lynn did various jobs ranging from a necropsy technician, a house painter to a freelance journalist. Her professional writing career began as a copywriter in Alexandria, Virginia, 1984 when she began writing texts for brochures, advertisements and promotional publications. Her first assignment was a brochure for the Assets Protection Team, a kind scab work. She returned to Maine in 1987, and started freelance work, among other things on the "Bangor Daily News" (the largest daily Maine newspaper) and "Maine In Print", so she had an opportunity to interview some great people.
Nowadays Flewelling is a Marriage and Family Therapist at Deeper Clarity Counseling. She is an experienced EMDR practitioner for trauma and PTSD, and also treat mood disorders, women's issues, codependence, grief & loss, stage of life issues, creativity, and LGBQIA and Transgender/Gender Non-Conforming issues. Flewelling specializes in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), considered one of the best methods for healing trauma and PTSD, talk therapy, mindfulness, sand tray, and dream work.
Lynn continues to write even today and also conducts creative writing workshops to students at the University of Redlands.
Lynn Flewelling is a world-renowned author particularly popular for her fantasy novels. Lynn’s fantasy novels are translated into 12 languages.
Lynn’s first novel in the Nightrunner series, ‘Luck in the Shadows’ became to be a finalist for the Compton Crook Award. This was also picked as the Best First Novel by Locus Magazine Editors. Lynn’s other works, ‘Traitor’s Moon’ and ‘Hidden Warrior’ were the finalists for the Spectrum Award.
